Xbox 360 2 Red Lights Error – Causes and Measures

July 23rd, 2010 by 12oclock

A heavy Xbox 360 user, at some point of time comes across a phenomenon called the 2 red lights error. The sign of it happening is breaking video output or graphics getting stuck on a screen. This is mostly followed by the fan making more noise than usual and over heating with 2 red lights flashing on the console. 2 red lights are mainly a sign of damaged graphic card or any damaged hardware, for that matter within the console. This is in simple words caused by over heating.

This problem is pretty common but can turn out to be a mess if you do not really know what’s happening. Let me give you a few tips on how to avoid this situation in the first place.

Keep the console in a well ventilated area.
Do not wrap the console in a towel or any other cloth.
Try to keep the console free from dust as much as possible, especially the side and back vents.

Normally, if you keep the console clean and pay attention to the heat, it will work fine. However, in case you come across the 2 red lights, there are measures which can save your Xbox at the cost of some money and time.

Microsoft will repair the console free of cost if it is still under warranty. If it is not, you may have to shell out $100 – $200 to get it repaired. It may also take up to 5 weeks for you to play those games again.
There are repair manuals available online and in stores which provide you detailed and step by step instructions to repair it on your own. You don’t really need to be a technician to do it and also it can be done with the help of some basic hand tools.
Manuals in form of videos are also available which can be more explanatory and easy to follow.

So as we have seen, it is simple to be away from the 2 red lights error and equally simple to mend it. I hope the above measures will help you in having trouble free and uninterrupted gaming sessions.

Australian Wines – The Best of its Kind

July 21st, 2010 by 12oclock

The Australian wines contribute a very big share to the Australian economy through its production and employment generation. The wine export is one of the most important exports of the country and current export figures show that Australia is the fourth largest exporter of wines. There is also significant domestic consumption for Australian wines and it comes in the range of 400 million litres per year. The high quality of the wine, that the manufacturers keep, makes the Australian wines the best in its category.

The first Australian vineyard was planted in 1788 in an area near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. With the course of time the number of vineyards in Australia increased and now there are about 170,000 hectares of vineyards Down Under. Australian wine manufacturers are known for their skill to combine tradition with technical innovation in wine making, which imparts a very unique character to the Australian wines. It is this peculiar trait of the Australian wines that makes it the best of its kind in the international market. The European free settlers who arrived in the 19th century in Australia utilised their skill and knowledge in creating some of the premier wine regions in Australia.

The Australian wine sector creates their wine brand image by their collective and united image development efforts under the Wine Australia brand. They participate in trade fairs, organise consumer tasting and invite key journalists and trade personnel to Australia. There are many varieties and styles of Australian wines for the consumers to choose from, with good quality, affordability and enjoyment being the common factors. The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation is a statutory body created by the Australian government for the providing strategic support for the marketing efforts of the wine industry. This organisation mainly takes on the responsibility of domestic and international wine promotion, providing information on wine production, negotiating with the industry bodies of other countries in reducing the trade barriers etc. The organisation is head quartered at Adelaide, South Australia and the Australian Government is the main stake holder in the organisation.

The Australian vineyards and the wine industrial units are major tourist attractions in the country and scores of tourists visit these places every day. A lot of Australians, who are trained in the modern methods of wine making, are traveling to different parts of the world and are utilising their skills in wine making in other countries as well. This has made it possible for wine manufacturers in other countries to learn the trick of Australian wines [http://www.wine1st.com] manufacturing.

The A-Z of Crystal Stemware

July 11th, 2010 by 12oclock

Choosing crystal stemware shouldn’t be difficult. All it takes is setting aside a little bit of time in familiarizing oneself with the different kinds of stemware out there in the market today.

Just to be clear, let’s define what stemware is. Stemware essentially refers to any kind of glassware whose bowl (the vessel which holds the drink) is perched on top of a stem (hence, the term stemware). It would also have a broad base called a foot to keep the glassware stable.

The stem is really what differentiates this glassware from other kinds. And while one might assume that the stem was created for ornamental purposes only, it actually does have other practical purposes. The primary function of the stem is to serve as a handle to the glassware. This way, one avoids touching the bowl of the glassware which warms the temperature of the drink and mars the clarity of the bowl’s surface (from the fingerprints left by the hand).

There are five kinds of popular stemware in the market now and these are wine glasses, champagne flutes, cocktail glasses (also called martini glasses), brandy snifters and cordial glasses. Of these five, the ones purchased by first time buyers are often the wine glasses and champagne flutes.

In choosing wine glasses, the rule of thumb is this: glasses for red wine have wider rims and bowls than glasses for white wine. And the darker the wine (or the more aged the wine), the larger the bowl of the glass should be. Conversely, the sweeter the wine, the smaller the bowl should be. Essentially, wide-rimmed glasses allow for the bouquet of the wine to breathe while narrow/small-rimmed glasses serve the purpose of concentrating the aroma molecules of the wine.

Champagne flutes in contrast are always tall with a narrow bowl. This serves to facilitate the process of creating the characteristic beads of the champagne liquid (thus the endearing term for champagne, ‘bubbly’). The bowl of the glass is narrowly designed to reduce the surface area at the bowl’s opening which in turn helps to retain the champagne’s signature carbonation.

Some champagne drinkers prefer the belly or tulip-shaped glasses as these are narrower at the midpoint, allowing the retention of the bouquet more than a traditional flute while at the same time keeping the ideal conditions for ‘bubbling’ of the liquid. A tulip glass also does not need to be tipped as much in order to reach the liquid at the bowl’s bottom unlike the regular flute.

Cocktail or so-called martini glasses have cone-shaped bowls. They have grown in popularity in recent times as their use became more commonplace in hip bars and clubs.

Brandy Snifters or balloons are short-stemmed glasses whose bowl has a wide bottom and a rim that is relatively narrower. The large surface of the snifter allows the drinker to take in the aroma of the brandy while the narrow rim keeps the aroma inside the glass.

Lastly, cordial glasses are used for drinking aperitifs and liqueurs. Cordial glasses refer to any stemmed glass that is smaller than a regular-sized wine glass. They are often made with thinner, more delicate glass.

The kind of stemware that one will buy will depend on how one intends to use them. After all, there is no point in buying something that will not be used. Also, in contrast to other types of glassware, stemware is normally purchased with the intent of being used and not just being displayed. Thinking of one’s drink preferences would definitely be a good starting point.

Promotional Wine Glasses – Sophistication and Promotions in One

July 9th, 2010 by 12oclock

There is a certain touch of sophistication and class in Promotional Wine Glasses. This may be because wine glasses are often used during special occasions and gatherings. They are also associated with distinctive events that also make it an efficient promotional item. The exposure of your brand is a sure fire hit. The guests in the events may not notice it at once, but for sure it will be recognised.

Different Kinds of Promotional Wine Glasses

Wine glasses have various shapes and sizes, and they were made and classified according to their use or the type of drink that is advisable for the particular glass, because it emphasises the aroma and flavour of the wine.

Some even came up with the explanation that there is a specified area in the tongue where the wine would taste best, and so the shape of the glass influences the direction of the wine towards that particular area of the tongue. Here are a few of the varieties of Promotional Wine Glasses:

White wine glass. They are narrow wine glasses that allow the chilled wine to retain its temperature. They are not frosted nor coloured so as to fully appreciate the wine’s colour.

Hock glass. They look like small coloured bowl with twisted stem and base. This is one of the few coloured wine glasses.

Champagne flutes. These glasses are narrower compared to glasses for white wine. They are described as glasses having tulip-shaped sides.

Etched glasses. They can be hand painted or have geometrical patterns. This is ideal as gifts for younger clients, since their designs are spunky and stylish. They make good Promotional Wine Glasses.

Pinot Noir glass. It has rounder bowls that are usually reserved for brandy.

Bordeaux glass. It is a tall and narrow glass generally used for serving red wine. They are designed as such to get a full-bodied taste of the wine.

Grappa glass. This has been designed specifically for an Italian alcoholic drink, which is the Grappa. This is approximately 7 inches tall with a balloon shape glass in between the stem and the glass itself.

Margarita glass. It has a footed stem and a bell shaped bowl.

Martini glass. Similar to the margarita glass, it also has a footed stem, but the bowl is cone shaped.

Playing King of the Hill

July 8th, 2010 by 12oclock

Does everyone remember playing King of the Hill back when we were kids? You know the one: you find a giant snowbank and ruthlessly fight to gain the throne at the top. I know in my neighborhood, the game had a tendency to get a little rough, especially if the bullies showed up. But we still play it around our house, and it can be a fun way to blow off some steam and even bond with your kids.

Last winter, we didn’t get to play as much, since it really didn’t snow a lot. But there were a couple times that we did. It’s great when you see that snow plow coming down the street, throwing everything to the side!

I always get to start out on the top, of course, because I’m DAD. It’s the kids’ job to dethrone me. What really gets fun is when the kids work together, trying to distract me from all sides, while attacking. Of course, I don’t REALLY get all that distracted, since they’re all fewer than ten years old, but I like to make them THINK they’re doing it. It’s funny, because even if my two daughters are having issues with each other, working together trying to get Dad down seems to bring a spirit of teamwork to their relationship.

I pretend like I’m going to throw them all the way down the hill, which brings squeals and laughter from them, since they know I’m obviously not going to do that. But pretending is a big part of this game.

There’s a fun variation you can do, too, that my daughters enjoy. I make them bring sleds to the top, and if they can’t get me down, I get to put them in a sled and race them down the hill.

Set a Formal Table the Easy Way

July 7th, 2010 by 12oclock

Hosting a dinner party can be intimidating enough, but for many the idea of setting a formal table can be too big a fear to conquer. Do not let the unknown of setting a formal table scare you, a beautifully set table is a fantastic canvas on which to serve your meal. Before you begin setting your individual place settings, make sure that you will have enough space to comfortably seat all of your guests. Your table should provide enough room to evenly space out all of you dinnerware, stemware, and flatware.

After you have draped your table top in a linen tablecloth, begin by setting out the dinner plates. Starting with the dinnerware will allow you to make sure each guests will have plenty of room while at the table. Ensure everyone will have ample elbow room by leaving approximately two feet on each side of the dinner plate before placing the next. Once you plates are set, you can set your cups and glasses (which always go to the right side of the plate) and your butter and salad plates (which always go to the left side).

The next step in setting your formal table settings is the flatware. Always place silverware in the order it will be used starting from the outside in. In order to avoid guests’ confusion, only place what will be used on the table. Forks are always placed to the left of the plate and knives and spoons to the right. When setting out the knives, remember that their cutting edges of the knives should always face in. If you are serving a course that will require a cocktail fork, this is placed to the very outside right of the plate.

Traditionally, napkins are placed to the very left of the forks. Although this is the most traditional way to set the napkins, how you place them can be completely determined by the style of your table and/or occasion. A more modern way is to set the napkins directly in the center of the dinner plate (on top).

When placing stemware on the table, note that there is a traditional way in which the glasses should be placed. Always think smallest to largest (like tallest in the back) when setting the glasses. Wine glasses should always be placed above into knives in a straight line, then slanting down and in with the tallest in the back. For example your setting might include a tall water goblet in the back, a wine glass next, then a dessert wine glass in the front. Again, only place out what you will be serving to avoid confusion and provide more space. Coffee cups are placed to the right or brought out after the meal has ended.

Many hostesses are overwhelmed when setting a formal dinner table, however just remember to try and make it as clear as possible for your guests. If they feel comfortable at your table, you will as well. With a properly set table that functions without confusion, everyone can focus on the meal being presented and the great company that surrounds it.

Types of Drinking Glassware

June 30th, 2010 by 12oclock

Glassware normally refers to drinking and eating apparatus made from glass. There are many types available, and we will disseminate the more popular ones used in homes and restaurants. Chances are, you will have at least two or more types in your home.

Beer Glassware

Most people think that there are only one or two types of beer glassware. This is not entirely true. Depending on the style of beer served, it normally would have its own special container. For instance, a pint glass is used when pouring Stouts and English Ales. An ordinary pint glass is normally shaped like a cone, a jug or with a flared top. Next on the list is the Pilsner glass, good for of course, Pilsner beer. Slim, slight and narrowed, this glass works best for light beers. For serving Scottish Ales and other styles of aromatic beer, a tulip glass is recommended. Its curvatures separate it from other drinking glassware. The most common of beer glassware would be the eponymous wheat glass beer, found in almost every pub. This glass is narrow at the bottom at wide at the top, meant for holding beer foam in place.

Wine Glasses

There are many types available, and we will look at the more regular ones. This glass stemware ordinarily has 3 components; bowl, stem and foot. The red wine glass usually comes in two forms – for Bordeaux and for Burgundy. A Bordeaux glass is tall with an expansive bowl, meant for full bodied wines such as Cabernet and Merlot, whilst a Burgundy glass is wider than the former, compatible for aromatic wines like Pinot Noir. White wine glassware consists of a wide range of types, from Champagne flutes, (long stem with a slender bowl) to Chardonnay glassware which are ample and shallow. White wine glasses generally have narrower bowls, so that the wine can remain crisp and full of flavor.

Cocktail Glassware

The most seen cocktail glassware would be the Whiskey glass. It is very small and meant for a single pouring at any one time. Next is the Shot glass, which houses up to 4 ounces of liquor. It is thicker in the base than a whiskey glass. Another trendy piece of cocktail glassware would have to be the Highball glass, used to mix a myriad of highball drinks, like Gin and Tonic and Long Island Tea. If you go to a restaurant or bar, chances are your alcoholic beverages would be made in one. An Old Fashioned glass is usually used for serving simple cocktails or beverages taken “on the rocks” (meaning the choice of drink is diluted with ice cubes) and is wide-shaped and stocky. A Collins glass, shaped like a tapered cylinder is used to serve mix drinks, in particular Tom Collins cocktails. Aperitifs, port and sherry are normally served in a sherry glass, which is minute in size, approximately 120 milliliters. And finally, let us not forget the ever-enduring Martini glass, immortalized by James Bond and represents elegance and exquisite taste. The Martini glass has a long stem with a flat bowl shaped like a cone, permitting the drinker to hold the glass without tampering with the drink’s temperature.

Custom Monogrammed Beer Mugs

June 12th, 2010 by 12oclock

Have you ever thought of fashioning your own custom monogrammed beer mug to give them an extra attractive edge? Monogrammed beer mugs make wonderful gift ideas for those who love drinking beer and appreciate the actual vessels. If you can set a whole afternoon aside, rope in friends or family members to make this a special communal project. Supplies can be easily found at your local hobby shops, and your work-of-art will be immensely enjoyed by your favorite beer drinkers. Nothing else is more appreciated than a gift made by loving hands.

Supplies needed:

• Beer mugs (a set of six is ideal)

• Chosen monogram (clip art is a great choice)

• Pencil

• Spray adhesive or strong glue

• Stencil knife

• Scissors

• Ruler for accurate measuring

• Gloves to protect hands

• Goggles

• Squeegee

• Etching cream

Method

At your local hobby store or thrift stores, find mugs which have flat peripherals and chiseled facades on the bottom part. Mugs which have facades all over are not suitable as it will be not be able to display your monogram.

Next, get your clip art letter ready. Scan the clip art on your computer and use suitable software to either enlarge or make the design small, depending on how you want the design to turn out.

Once this is completed, use your pencil to illustrate a parallel line along the baseline of the letter. Use a ruler to guide you. Spot the letter’s middle point with a small dot.

Then, begin to incise the monogrammed clip art letter. Remember to draw a little border around each sides and the upper edge. Place a piece of long paper at the edge of the bottom.

Cut a small piece of adhesive, keeping in mind to use shelf paper that can cover the beer glass and big enough to swathe over the edges when the beer mug is rested on its side.

Place the beer mug on its side and stick on the shelf paper. Determine where the baseline is to be and draw a parallel line to mark the spot.

Cover the back of your letter paper using the adhesive and aerate for a while. Once dry, firmly depress the letter directly on the shelf paper. Adjust accordingly.

After eliminating the tab, cut out the monogrammed letter, using a stencil knife to incise around the letter’s inner and outer borders. Gently take out the paper.

Put some etching cream on the surface of the beer mug and use the squeegee to evenly disseminate a substantial coat of cream over the monogrammed letter. Use goggles as the scent from the etching cream can overwhelm the eyes.

Let dry for about 20 minutes. Use the squeegee to eliminate leftover etching cream. Using a mild detergent and tepid water, rinse the beer mug and remove the shelf paper from it.

Voila! You now have your very own, custom monogrammed beer vessel. Send these to your beer loving friends as birthday gifts. They will love you for this.

Engagement Gift Ideas

June 6th, 2010 by 12oclock

Your friends just became engaged. You are happy to see them united and want to get just the right thing to show your happiness. You want to acknowledge this wonderful time in their lives; but you have not a clue as to what to get. Well, we have some ideas to help you. Some of these gifts for the new groom or the new bride, and some can be given to them as a couple.

Tee shirts imprinted “Just got Engaged”. You can get one just for him or for her or get a matched set for them to wear together.

The International Star Registry will pick a star in the heavens and you get to pick a name for it. Add their names together as the new star. The Registry will send them a certificate of a new star in their honor.

Find a four leaf clover that is framed. Add a note that you know they do not need a four leaf clover since they have found each other. They have all the luck they will ever need.

Get a set of key chains with the attachment is a heart split in half. One half of the heart goes on one chain and the other heart on the other chain. The two halves will make up one heart when together.

Find a chrome or gold doorknocker and have their first and soon to be common last name inscribed on the plate.

Find a “countdown clock”. The clock can be set for the number of days until their wedding date. Each day the clock will eliminate one day until they will be married.

All couples have arguments. Getting over the argument is the difficult thing. Try this as a gift. According to an ancient Irish tradition, engaged couples were presented with a crystal bell. Whenever an argument brewed, all it took was for one partner to ring the bell and the dispute would be instantly settled.

Find Crystal flutes and have their names etched into the glass with the date of their engagement. Add a bottle of their favorite champagne.

Things get confusing as the bride plans her wedding. To make sure that she has good memories, give her a Bride’s memory book for her to record all the wonderful things that happened during this time.

As the Bride starts to plan her wedding, shopping will be a major concern. Shopping for the gown, the bridesmaid gowns, what dinnerware to select, the silver. Send her a magazine subscription to one of the bride’s magazines so she can do some of this work in the comfort of her own home and will her finance.

Most unions have a little upheaval from time to time. Give your engagement couple a “relationship book” by a reputable author. You can also check on the Internet and find a site that will give your couple an acre on the moon. They will receive a certificate of their moon acreage.

Another key ring idea has a lock on one key chain and a key on the other. They will have to decide who has the lock and who has the key.
